What Works Wednesday: Hymnsite.com

hymnsiteI don’t remember who originally told me about hymnsite.com, but I am glad that they did. It is a very good resource for music.

Here’s a list of things you can do at hymnsite.com:

  • You can search the lyrics of most hymns in the UMC hymnal as well as Faith We Sing. It has all the lyrics that are permissible by copyright law. I find this helpful when I can remember a key word in a hymn, but can’t quite remember how it goes.
  • You can isten to the hymn. You can listen to most hymns (again, some are restricted by copyright), and even listen to them in different ways (like piano, bells, and organ). This is extremely helpful if you are looking through the hymnal and can not recall the tune for a hymn.
  • You can also download hymns.
  • It lists the lectionary readings and suggested hymns that go along with the reading.

I have the UMC worship planning calendar, which is great, but I do not carry it with me everywhere. Hymnsite.com is wherever you can find an internet connection. It works for me!

If you know of any really handy worship resources like this website, please leave it in a comment… I am always looking for good resources to help with worship planning and organization.
